December 2011 was when we last visited Berlin. Lots of things have changed since. The biggest one is having two kids now! We always talked about visiting Berlin again. So we did! During the last summer holiday we planned a couple of days in Germany as well. Starting in Berlin. Different season, bigger family, same city. Showing the boys around, learning the history and reunited with friends. We had a really good time!
We started our first day at Grünau before visiting the East Side Gallery the next morning. Which was on the way to our next stay for the next couple of days. Admiring the wall paintings and the Oberbaum Bridge. Enjoying the summer in Berlin.
After quickly relocating the car we continued our walk, eventually ending up at the Berlin Wall Memorial. A lot to see and even more to learn. It’s still impressive to read the stories about and from the people during this time and how the situation developed. A history that is still clearly visible throughout the city. A powerfull testimony and a reminder of the past. Let’s hope we’re all able to learn from it.
We walked quite a lot during this day. Ending the day with some kebab. With a full stomach and a ton of new impressions printed in our minds we called it a day and enjoyed a calm evening. Preparing ourselves for the day two in Berlin!
