For the first week of January we booked a nice little house in Eksel, Belgium. The park itself was still under construction but that wasn’t really a problem. The house was nice, comfortable and clean. During our stay we had a walk in the forest and made some small stops in different places nearby. Of course we couldn’t just go back home without having a waffle as well! 2022 is off to a good start! 🙂

3 Weeks In Hungary
The new year has started and I didn’t manage to edit the photos from our last holiday in August yet. Time to get motivated again and get into the groove once more.
This summer we could stay a little longer in Hungary. As we were allowed to work remotely for a couple of days. As we mainly do nowadays anyway with COVID-19 around.

Amsterdam, always good to be back! It had been a while since our last visit. The last time we visited was even before the start of this whole pandemic. And because of that pandemic, tourism has been slow. Which was clearly visible in Amsterdam as well. There were hardly any tourists in the city. It looked like the city had slowed down, taking a little nap. Preparing itself for when things return to somewhat normal. And when they do, Amsterdam will be receiving its guest with open arms again. Leaving us with this memory of Amsterdam being a rather quiet place. Which will be, I’m pretty sure, hard to imagine when visiting the city again next time. 🙂

The joy of having a build in ND filter in the camera quickly disappeared when I realized I had forgotten to put back the memory card after copying the last photos onto the computer. The message “internal memory full” isn’t something you want to see after taking only a couple of pictures. It made the selection process a whole lot easier though!
Continue readingA lot better than expected
Due to all the COVID-19 restrictions we didn’t feel like visiting the Efteling for a while. But things changed for the better, the situation improved and we still had some tickets left for a visit. So last month we decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised how well things were organized in order to keep distance and minimize the risks of getting infected. Despite some people having troubles following the guidelines, we had a wonderful day. A lot better than expected for sure. Almost like the old days again!

Pentecost gave us an extra day off. We booked a cabin for the long weekend in Epe. Which gave us the idea to visit the Apenheul again. We always love to go there and see what the monkeys are up to. Including our own! There are about 35 different species of primate about half of which roam freely among the visitors. When entering the park you also get a free map where you can scratch a box every time you see one of the monkeys. It’s a nice scavenger hunt and our kids loved it (and so did we).
Continue readingA Sunny Day in May
So far it has been raining a lot and we had some strong winds. Horrible weather for the time of year! When the sun finally came out we decided to drive to the Biesbosch. It’s a national park and has one famous resident: the beaver. There are around 300 beavers living in this park in about 100 lodges. The dense vegetation and abundance of water makes this park a beaver paradise. They also have a trail designed to educate children (Beverbos) about these creatures. It’s a nice area where you can go on adventure and learn everything about them. There’s even the possibility to climb through the tree tops. Despite keeping our feet on the ground that day, we didn’t see any beavers (not sure anyone ever does!). But we did see some turtles. Enjoying the sun, just like us! 🙂
