So far it has been raining a lot and we had some strong winds. Horrible weather for the time of year! When the sun finally came out we decided to drive to the Biesbosch. It’s a national park and has one famous resident: the beaver. There are around 300 beavers living in this park in about 100 lodges. The dense vegetation and abundance of water makes this park a beaver paradise. They also have a trail designed to educate children (Beverbos) about these creatures. It’s a nice area where you can go on adventure and learn everything about them. There’s even the possibility to climb through the tree tops. Despite keeping our feet on the ground that day, we didn’t see any beavers (not sure anyone ever does!). But we did see some turtles. Enjoying the sun, just like us! 🙂

Radio Kootwijk
It’s the start of May. And we haven’t seen much sunshine yet. Instead we are still wearing our winter coats and trying to avoid the rain as much as we can. Luckily not all the days are dark and grey though. The day before King’s Day we had some nice weather and decided to visit Radio Kootwijk. It’s both the name for the transmitter park as well as the village around it and the area is now open to the public (the transmission station is no longer in use).
Continue reading19 Windmills
There’s a windmill close to our house where the boys like to go play and have a picnic. But what’s better than one windmill? 19 windmills! We packed some lunch and drove to Kinderdijk. Had a nice walk, a small lunch (with a view) and enjoyed the sunshine. It finally started to feel like spring a little!
Continue readingThe Brabantse Sahara
Day two of our short break. We decided to go to the Loonse and Drunense Duinen (Dunes of Loon and Drunen National Park). Also called the Brabantse Sahara (named after the province it’s in). What an amazing place! One of the largest natural areas in The Netherlands and the largest sand drift area in western Europe. It’s a beautiful sight and a bit surreal. We loved it.
Continue readingIce Cream in Heusden
After our walk in the woods we felt like getting ice-cream and a coffee! So we made the trip to Heusden. Ready for a small walk and a coffee to go. Unfortunately the coffeehouse wasn’t open but at least the ice cream shop was. We found ourselves a nice little spot in the sun, sat down and enjoyed our ice cream. A perfect way to end this day!

A short break for the kids (and us)! School holidays for a week! We decided to take some days off as well. So we could have a nice little getaway and not just sit around the house all day.
But what to do when all the museums, attraction parks, restaurants, cinemas and playgrounds are still closed? Exactly, go outside! We rented the same accommodation again as we did before (last Christmas). A nice lodge in the middle of the forest. Perfect to keep the kids and ourselves entertained for a couple of days! 🙂
Continue readingSouth Beach The Hague
Not the same as South Beach Florida I imagine. And definitely a different climate. But also a lot closer to us. 🙂 This beach is the peaceful and secret alternative between Scheveningen and Kijkduin. You won’t find many tourists here, but mainly locals.
